Samsung Behold SGH-T91 Review

February 10th, 2011

Samsung SGH-T919 Behold brings a nice blend of multimedia features to new 3G network T-Mobile. If you are looking for a ‘wow’ without springs for a smartphone, see the large touch screen, fun and unusual interface, and 5-megapixel camera can fill the bill. Remember that improved versions of each of the individual features can be found other handsets, just not all on a single phone.

The Samsung Behold looks and works a lot like Sprint’s Samsung Instinct or Verizon’s LG Dare. All three phones are equipped with extra bells and whistles, they look and feel a bit like a smartphone, but are not as expandable or complex. The 3.9-ounce Behold is a 4.1 by 2.1 by 0.5 inches (HWD) black plate with a nice plastic back that looks like brushed metal.

On the front of the handset, there is a large, 3.1-inch, 240 by 400-pixel touch screen above the Pick Up, hanging, and Back buttons. Camera Lock and Volume buttons are on the sides of the phone, and a whopping 5-megapixel autofocus camera lives on the back. Design a sour note: the microSD slot is hidden underneath the battery, which allows you as a challenge.

Samsung’s TouchWiz interface makes using the Looks fun. Just like on the LG Dare, the splash screen is very customizable. You can drag icons for various apps including the music player, photo viewer, the IM client, web browser and a sidebar of them anywhere you want on the home screen Plop. I found the touch screen and accelerometer response.

As a voice phone, the Behold is not bad as long as you do not venture into areas with high background noise. For this is a 3G phone (T-Mobile’s 3G only but worldwide EDGE), I experienced the rich tones of a 3G conversation, without the noise I hear a lot of 2G on T-Mobile phone. Indoors or in a quiet environment, the earpiece volume was fine, and a lot of in-ear feedback made pleasant talk. But outside the earpiece had triumphed over trouble very noisy places and a lot of background noise came through the microphone.

The speakerphone was loud, so tinny, and also have a lot of background noise. The phone comes with a wired headset for her eccentric, proprietary Samsung connector. It worked great with our mono Plantronics Voyager 520 and Motorola S9 stereo headsets, including the activation of the excellent Nuance voice dialing system. Battery life was very good for a 3G phone, at 5 hours and 10 minutes talk time.

If the carrier usually does, T-Mobile has locked the phone, a ban on you from installing your own apps, in all honesty, though, the Behold not a smartphone. But this means you are stuck with a mediocre browser and underwhelming e-mail and IM programs. The IM app handles AIM, ICQ, Yahoo and Windows Live Messenger, e-mail program supports AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, and a few other ISPs, but not a generic POP / IMAP e-mail. The browser is the popular NetFront 3.4, but with a twist: T-Mobile all pages through a WAP portal translation that makes it easy to read the basic text content of Web pages, but also mangles their layout. It is safest to stick with the mobile-formatted pages on this phone.

The 5-megapixel camera is not quite measure up in the Motorola ZN5, yet it is a lot better than the 2-megapixel shooters you get on many feature phones. Does the camera captured about 25 percent fewer rules than the ZN5, resulting in blurred images. The LED flash is very weak compared to the ZN5 Xenon flash, and shutter lag was disappointing 1.93 seconds (compared with a spicy 0.45 seconds in the ZN5).

On the positive side, using the Imatest test suite, the Behold showed a low amount of noise at all light levels, and photos show was cooler than the ZN5′s. Behold and has a better movie mode than the ZN5 does, capturing relatively smooth 320 by 240 videos at 15 frames per second. You can view your photos in over the phone 200MB memory on board or on a MicroSD card up to 16 GB.

Using the included USB cable or Bluetooth, the Behold synchronize with free Samsung PC Studio 3.1.2 software for Windows Vista. You can also transfer files to and from Macs or PCs with Bluetooth, file transfers were unusually fast for a phone, at about 1 megabit per second, but PC Studio is rougher than either Nokia or Sony Ericsson PC Suite.

You can copy single contacts, calendar entries, tasks and notes from Outlook or type them on your PC, but you can not select a folder or copy entries. The program imploded when I tried to copy back all my calendar until 2004. PC Studio allows you to copy music and video files to your phone but it does not transcode them to the correct format for on-the-go viewing.

MP3, AAC and WMA music files are supported, and you can create your own songs as ringtones. The music is very attractive, does album covers, and supports the typical sort options. In my video tests, see a play 320 by 240, 30-frame-per-second MPEG4 movie file smoothly in landscape mode, but an H.264 video stuttered badly. You also get directions TeleNav GPS software.

But since the phone was not satellite-only and Assisted GPS, but had trouble locking and finding a location when we tried it in two different boroughs of New York City. Behold the Samsung is not the best at one thing, but it gives you a lot on a single device. On T-Mobile, the Motorola ZN5 is a better camera phone, the T-Mobile G1 offers far superior web experience, and the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 offers free Wi-Fi calling and syncs with iTunes.

Motorola Cliq 2 Phone Review

January 20th, 2011

The Cliq 2 closely resembles the original Motorola Cliq, but has some enhanced with specs and a much improved hardware keyboard, which would be a real competitor to the current line of high-end smartphones on T-Mobile. But the new Cliq 2 have what it takes to be the must-Android smartphone on T-Mobile? Android boys and me about a hands-on review and below are some of the information. Hit the source link below for more pictures and details.

image11 Motorola Cliq 2 Phone Review

External hardware

Motorola 2 Cliq is a slide-out QWERTY phone with a 3.7-inch high-resolution capacitive FWVGA display with a 480 x 854 max resolution. On the outside, the Cliq 2 looks eerily similar to its predecessor, with a few notable exceptions. The Cliq 2 brushed titanium has a border around the screen, which makes the phone look pretty tight and seem less plasticy than the original Cliq. It feels a bit heavy and firmly in hand, I personally think this is a good thing (although I know some will disagree there).

The original Cliq received a little flak for the lack of a search button on the main display, a critique Motorola must have taken to heart as the Cliq 2 now has the standard 4 buttons we are used on most Android phones. Cliq The XT also had the standard 4-button layout. At the top of the device will find the power button and the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Along the right side, find the volume rocker, a switch to silent / vibrate mode, and a camera button. The charging port is only on the left side of the device. The back of the phone is made of a rubber texture, making the Cliq 2 really feel good in your hand. Also on the back of the device, the camera and LED flash.

Hardware keyboard

One of the biggest improvements of the Motorola Cliq 2 is the review of the physical keyboard. The Cliq 2′s keyboard was inspired by nature, and strangely resembles the shape of a honeycomb. While the keyboard is not ugly by a stretch, we do not expect it either turn many heads. Fortunately for the Cliq 2, the keyboard makes up for its shortcomings in the looks department that is incredibly functional. The buttons are identical to the original vaulted Cliq makes it easier to find the keys you want, what a pleasant typing experience. The keyboard on the original Cliq was a little tight with the huge directional pad on the left side of the device. The direction keys still on the Cliq 2, but their presence is much more subdued, which makes the keyboard feel a bit bigger (although there is some free space on the keyboard that could be better utilized).

Internal hardware

On the inside, the guts of the Cliq 2 has quite a few specs that its right on par with other high-end devices. The 1GHz 3620-1000 TI OMAP processor is powerful enough to handle everything MOTOBLUR has to offer without the delays we sometimes experience on the original Cliq. Similar to other Motorola devices, the Cliq 2 has a dedicated 530 PowerVR SGX GPU, which should allow for better performance on even some of the newer, graphically intensive games like Dungeon Defenders. The Cliq 2 until just my nexus on a different GPU benchmark tests, a difference of 23 fps on the Cliq 2 to 15 fps on the Nexus Nenamark1 the benchmark test. We also noticed that the two will play as Gun Cliq Bros. or Dungeon Defenders decent play without too much delay, where my Nexus One sometimes struggles with these titles.

CLIQ 2 Front TMO Motorola Cliq 2 Phone Review

Storage Cliq hindered the original device, but the Cliq has a 2 GB internal memory. Although much smaller than the 8-16GB available on the Galaxy S line of devices, it is much wider than the 512 found on most mid-range offerings on the market today. Moreover, the Cliq 2 has a microSD card slot supporting up to 32 GB of additional storage.

Software

As expected, the two pre-loaded with the Cliq MOTOBLUR overlay overlay Motorola’s Android operating system that focuses on a constant stream of your social world, using the built-in widgets. In the first set up your phone, Motorola asks for your social media site log-in information and uses it to deliver content right to your home screen without having to launch an application. That being said, we find that MOTOBLUR is much more useful than the presumptuous, and removing all widgets from your home screens increases the zippiness of the devices.

One of the biggest beefs we had with the original Cliq was the fact that it was Android 1.5 are in a time where 2.0/2.1 already begun to be listed on major appliances. Motorola and T-Mobile seem to have learned their lesson with this one, as the Cliq 2 Froyo Android 2.2 will sport when it is released on Wednesday.

Although Froyo is not the latest version of Android is only one device on the market officially touting gingerbread, and only one (Sony Xperia Arc) of the upcoming super phones launched at CES earlier this month was gingerbread. No word yet on if and when Motorola is planning to upgrade the Cliq 2 to Android 2.3, 2.4 or 3.0, but we will certainly keep you posted if / when we learn more.

Call quality

With all the awesome stuff on our phone can do, we often forget about, aos basic functionality (especially when reviewing new devices). In this respect, the Cliq 2 performs as well as you, Aod expect from a mobile phone. I’ve multiple calls from the Cliq 2, and both myself and the other parties had no problems hearing each other, even when using the Cliq 2′ s speakerphone.

Camera / Camcorder Quality

With a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, Cliq 2 takes fairly decent photos in most lighting conditions. The ARC is not the highest quality mobile phone camera out there, but it gets the job done when you, AORE on the go and Thurs, AOT wants a complete camera with you. Thurs, AOT expect this phone completely replace your point and shoot camera by a piece, but the Cliq 2 camera is good enough for the camera at home to complete a little more often.

One of the biggest disappointments is the lack of HD video recording support on the Cliq 2. This is extremely disappointing, since almost all high-end phones are released today contains at least 720p video recording support. As it stands, the highest resolution of the Cliq 2 supports is 720 x 480 (480p).

BlackBerry Bold 9780 T-Mobile Phone Review

January 18th, 2011

The Blackberry Bold 9780 is the first BlackBerry handset to use 6. The latest update to RIM’s operating system is further away from the rigid and static from old OS, something more liquid in a market where Apple and Android 2.2 IOS are winning fans. With the exception of a dark ring around the edge of the device looks almost identical to the previous Bold and that’s about it. Although a phone as individual as the Bold, RIM had never moving too far from its formula.

The Bold has no touchscreen, so you can navigate using the square touch sensitive trackpad. Once you get used to it, scroll up and down web pages is quite fast, but if you are from a touchscreen at first it is hard not to jab the screen, while regular Bold users will not have this problem.

Build quality is solid and reassuring, with dedicated volume buttons on the side. One thing that we aren’ta big fan of the position of the voice-activation button on the side, despite the use of the handset for a few weeks, we accidentally pressed on a daily basis.

E-mail and social networking

The highlight of the Blackberry Bold is always the keyboard, it is unchanged here. Typing is a breeze, the keys have plenty of travel, so you’ll easily typing messages. Although people with larger fingers (like us) may find this a little tight, we prefer the larger keyboard of the HTC Z Desire, but its compact size makes it more friendly bag.

In line with the main strength of RIM, the Bold 9780 is a very friendly e-mail. 10 You can synchronize e-mail accounts at once or through a web mail account such as Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail, besides business Enterprise Accounts. This is done through the Setup menu, which uses simple step-by-step instructions to you via email, instant messaging and social network set up (with WiFi and Bluetooth).

Choose to review the information in a list or filter by individual accounts. Click through for each individual account access where you can write messages, view contacts, etc. It works very well and makes it very easy to use, our only gripe is that scrolling through lists of messages takes a while due to the size of the screen.

To be honest, nobody buys a really exciting for its video playback capability. The screen is definitely a bit on the small size and 480×360 resolution means the videos are quite clear and sharp, rather than excellent, but it is nice for the odd YouTube video. There is no Flash support though.

The Bold 9780 captures video at a speed of 640×480 and you can upload images directly to YouTube. The camera has been boosted from 3.2 to 5 megapixels, the shutter is a bit slow, but photos are sufficient and it is very easy to upload them to Twitter and Facebook with a few clicks.

A boost in storage 512MB 256MB is welcome, but of course it is expandable with MicroSD cards. Audio playback is pretty good, we managed to get a decent amount of volume of our tracks and a single 3.5 mm jack means you can use your own headphones.

Conclusion

With its full QWERTY keyboard and a strong email support, the Bold 9780 is much more a phone for messaging – to send texts and emails. At its end it is still probably the best handsets on the market.

Motorola Defy T-Mobile Phone Review

December 27th, 2010

The Motorola Defy is a major contributor to the natural erosion of face-to-face social interaction. We can thank the synchronization and digital social networking powerhouse MOTOBLUR for what the outfits Defy the endless social networking capabilities and Internet-related operations. Motorola Defy is a robust little guy, to show a scratch-resistant touch screen and waterproof body. The phone is also a feature of voice quality department, sports two microphones, and it has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash.

motorola defy1 Motorola Defy T Mobile Phone Review

Design

The Motorola Defy is all screen-a 3.7-inch capacitive, scratch-resistant screen, that is. The phone’s screen has a WVGA resolution that was very crisp, has an excellent web and gallery-browsing and video playback. How scratch resistant is the Defy Corning’s Gorilla glass display? We have the end of a paper clip, she pressed on the screen as hard as we could and it went to grind as hard as we could, only to find screen flawlessly smooth with not even a nickname. The Motorola Defy the touch screen is also very sensitive to touch, and as a whole proved to be one of the better displays in this price range.

Stylistically, the Motorola Defy is an unconventional small unit, free of screws and rubber seals the USB port and 3.5mm audio jack wraps. The back must have made a switch that it seals to the body of the phone are used as a seal closed. Including security Luke we find the battery, SIM card and 2GB MicroSD card in a slot that supports up to 32GB cards. This weird black and white two-tone design is for a reason and that is to ward off light splashing water or other liquids. Oops, I accidentally spilled my gin and tonic on my Defy! The 5-megapixel camera and LED flash on the back of the camera with a protective film clear filter is mounted, and the only other notable feature of Motorola Defy, is that the thing is one of the smallest Android phones on the market, in addition to Sony Ericsson Minis.

Software and Interface

Before we jump into the MOTOBLUR experience, please let us what look under the hood. The phone has a 800MHz OMAP 3610 processor with 512 MB RAM. It’s not the fastest machine on the market, but we had no major speed problems. The phone also has an accelerometer, which came in handy for advanced gameplay. In times of phone a touch of stubborn and would delay, but it was low, and nothing to a fit of pitch. The Motorola Defy has 7 home screens, which are all fully customizable with Motorola, Family Room and Android widgets, shortcuts, folders and images. By the beginning was our familiar status bar with the latest updates, and we were able to WiFi, network, Bluetooth and GPS settings with a specific widget control.

Now MOTOBLUR is the reason we feel many people in public spaces by surrounding technophobes will be despised. Think of all your Facebook. thrown MySpace, Twitter, Google and e-mail contact as random into a giant grab bag, mixed together in no particular order, making it nearly impossible to find by looking at you. MOTOBLUR comes with full synchronization of all e-mail accounts, including corporate Exchange, it is only to treat an inbox. All contacts from one of these accounts are accumulated in a mega-list, so that some of the alphabet. Widgets allows us to choose our favorite contacts to display the most relevant feeds, and there was even a family room, a family calendar to update the field and quick contacts, which automatically selects and assembles Defy mentioned as a family member contacts.

The Motorola Defy also gave us Blast, which batch e-mails sent to one of our preferred contact lists, including family rooms contacts. The bottom line is that we browse and interact with multiple contacts to many different levels, littering our home screens with feeds and social networking widgets. Surfing the Internet was good although we Android 2.1, the browser is not Flash action such as YouTube videos using. We have to play to pop out of the browser to them. One of our favorite aspects of the Motorola  Defy Sound was Hound Song ID, which worked like Shazam, we could just hum or sing a song to your phone with surprisingly accurate results.

Call Quality /Battery Life

Since the Motorola Defy has two microphones, one for voice and one for filtering out background noise, we have some high quality audio action when it comes to the making of calls came. With music on full blast, we heard no complaints of any significant background noise in our test call receiver at the other end. The sound is loud and clear, but in absolute silence, we sometimes found a slight crackle-very rare and small, but it was there.

For battery life, Motorola claimed 6.8 hours talk time and 9.9 days of standby time, although we found the numbers a bit less than that. Nevertheless showed the Motorola Defy make a decent battery stamina it there we’d performers with some of the better battery. Although it is always difficult to measure, battery power on a cell phone, since there are several ways to use them. With light internet browsing, camera usage, some ask, and games, the Motorola Defy is at 2 /3 battery charge after leaving it overnight. That’s 24 hours, including standby time, so that should give you an idea of this phone longevity.

Image/ Video Quality

The Motorola Defy combines many phones in this price range with a mid-level image quality. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. The short of it is that the Motorola Defy in low light when the fighting flash video light is used, and images lack fine detail. The latest powerhouse Android phone, the T-Mobile myTouch 4G is the best smartphone experience of T-Mobile has to offer. A fast processor, HSPA + internet speeds, Wi-Fi calling, and the latest software to Android mean myTouch offers more power than the competition. And it is good looking to boot. The myTouch 4G feels, in a word, expensive. Relatively heavy at 5 ounces and measuring 4.8 to 2.44 from 0.43 cm (HWD) with a metal back and a little ceramized plastic bezel, it feels like it could be the comparatively thin Vibrant Samsung  powder in pounds. The phone comes in white, black, purple and red-I has been checked black. The myTouch used hard buttons instead of the touch key for the back, Menu and Home buttons, so they are easier in the dark or without looking, as the Vibrant’s keys. There is also a small touchpad below the attractive 800×480 LCD screen for navigation without the touch screen.

Phone lines and Internet access

The myTouch a good voice phone. Reception was average. The voice quality was very good, maybe a touch brassy, rather than rich in sound, but always clear and understandable. A little background noise came through the microphone, but my voice was loud and clear on the other side. The speakerphone is okay, it really is on the back of the phone, so it is especially loud when the phone around. Battery life was excellent to 8 hours, 5 minutes of talk time.

Our review model had 16GB, but HTC says the European units will ship with 8 GB. It should be enough, although we would the opportunity to strengthen them with microSD like – to support the Windows Mobile 7 technical. The lock button is now on the top right HD7 HTC, for 3.5 mm audio-and micro-USB for syncing and charging sit on the floor.

He is now stand an interesting addition to the HTC HD7. We have not really seen this on a high-end phone from the Sony Ericsson W995, but if a screen on any merit, it is surely the HD7 large plate on the HTC. Honestly, does support that Windows Mobile 7 is limited video format (the same as the iPhone, pretty much) to you may not see too many, but it’s nice to have the opportunity: it is like well, and perhaps important, not add to the thickness or ever felt, it could open up and raced through the random drawing of the HTC HD7 from his pocket.

One of the most striking physical difference between the HTC and the desire HD7 HD is the former physical camera button where you would expect on the right. Windows Mobile 7 easily solved by having the camera is reasonable with a long push, even when the screen is locked, which is welcome for spur of the moment shots, and the five-megapixel sensor on the HTC HD7.

Shots landed quite loud most of the time, and the phone has an annoying habit of only focusing on the screen at the very last second so that it can be difficult to frame shots with precision. The dual-LED flash is welcome, and to do the job – this is not a Nokia N8 though. What we were satisfied, however, the HTC was HD7, 720p video recording. As you can see in the clip above can, while not particularly sharp, the autofocus is extremely responsive.

htc hd7 2 HTC HD7 Review

All in all, the HTC HD7 dressed the plate of sharpness we expected. What really surprised us about the HTC HD7 but we have almost sorry to say, the screen. While it is quite appealing and sharp at 800x 480 resolution, it is unfortunately also shows for something washed out top of the line, and the Windows Mobile 7 by default black background, it even more. You know how blacks look on older TVs do more than anything else? It is so. Perch a Samsung Omnia 7, complete with Super AMOLED screen next to it, and the difference is amazing. HTC really needs to work on this aspect of all of its mobile phones, now that the supply produced by Samsung AMOLED panel disappears.

Of course, the sheer size of the screen goes some way to making this on. The 4.3-inch screen sounds great, but at least with our hands around, it is absolutely perfect for typing and tapping icons. We have never missed a stroke on the excellent Windows Mobile 7 Keyboard, and it’s definitely the right way.

You can read more about Windows Mobile 7 itself in our full review, but the HTC HD7 1GHz CPU is absolutely flying. We have never experienced any slowdown, and if anything, you’re going to wait on the screen flashing transitions – see for yourself in the video below, we doubled and recorded with the Samsung Omnia 7. Some third-party applications (especially games) not to take a long download, but the HD7 is a game for the Omnia 7 when it comes to speed. We have some crazy bug that caused the screen to repeat again and again to offset a few pixels, then run the whole thing was not readable. But a reboot fixed this, and it is possible this glitch be fixed by launch.

HTC has tried to differentiate themselves a bit with the software, but HTC HD7. On board you will find the HTC Hub biased, which lets you use various HTC widgets in it (stocks/ weather). Unfortunately, it is quite useless, since it opened as a third party app. We do not think HTC is a name for himself with this in the way of it with a scythe on Android, and we unpinned it from the startup screen very quickly, and have not looked back.

htc hd7 HTC HD7 Review

Battery life on the HTC HD7 is pretty much par for the course with a modern smart phone these days. 1230 mAh sounds like not sound much for a 4.3-inch WVGA Smartphone, but we never have any trouble using it through a day of solid, even if they do not stretch to two. Of course, Windows Mobile 7 does not allow third party applications running in the background, so you no chance, there in the same manner as an Android phone drain – swings and roundabouts.

The HTC HD7 is unusual, perhaps more than any other smartphone this year, we had expected. It seemed obvious that HTC would be nice design with Windows Mobile 7 to connect. And it works: We would even go as far to say that it still makes it a better choice than the fugly Samsung Omnia 7, despite its clearly inferior screen. It’s big, beautiful and good or bad, has all the advantages and disadvantages of Windows Mobile 7 brings.

T-Mobile Comet Phone Review

December 1st, 2010

In 2010, a telephone require a 4.3-inch display, a gigahertz (or higher) processor, and a one-bazillion megapixel camera with xenon flash and auto focus continuous may be relevant? How would it be important? Or even – dare we say it – genius? Is that even possible? At a glance, T-Mobile’s Comet from Huawei an entirely forgettable phone, just another anonymous Ultra-low-end handset that does not work, impress anyone (except maybe your tax advisor). In fact, it is within shouting distance of the free. It runs stock Android 2.2. A regional variation of Huawei Ideos, it was developed with the help of Google. Oh, and yes, it is one of the first T-Mobile devices to Wi-Fi hotspot support available.

Hardware

It would be misleading to say that the Comet has a premium appearance, but in the same breath, calling it “cheap looking” would probably do it a disservice. It looks like Huawei generally everything in order to use ultra-low-cost materials and make them look (and feel) high-end starting with a matte black plastic on the back and the front panel with small strips of soft-touch material done in trimmed added in between . The company limited its gracious use of chrome on the D-pad of the ring and the volume rocker, and the plate around the D-Pad has concentric ribs to produce a nice visual effect. We can definitely picture of the Comet looks great in a variety of colors (in fact highlighted a number of Huawei Ideos colors on the IFA), but for now, black is the only option.

T Mobile Comet right for print T Mobile Comet Phone Review

About 104 x 56 x 13mm, make no mistake, that the comet is a very small phone – as well it should, given the small 2.8-inch screen. After most of the past few years carrying phones with 3.5 inch or greater, there is something refreshing about dealing with such a thin phone and know that it’s more than a dumbphone – realistic, in fact, it has 85 or 90 percent of the capacity and functionality of high-end devices on the market today, if you think about it. It is not particularly thin, but the thickness feels appropriate for the size – not chubby in the least.

As for ports and controls are simple: Micro-USB in the middle of the soil, 3.5 mm headphone jack and power button up top, and the aforementioned volume rocker is on the left. The power switch is flush with a little too small, making it difficult to say if you pushed it once … but that is a button, we would much prefer to push too hard to be too easy. On the back you have the 3.2-megapixel camera next two holes, which was seen as a dual-LED flash, but they are actually for the kit – there is no flash in this case.

Moving back to the front, you get the usual four buttons Android as touch-sensitive icons below the capacitive display, and below, vertically oriented send and end keys on either side of the circular D-pad. This area of the phone is really the only part that we take specific question: at a glance, it seems wasteful. As we mentioned before, the concentric ring design is kinda cool, but it does not serve any function so that you end up with this relatively large area of dead space that could have either used more screen real estate or completely destroyed to make the phone smaller.

amazon T Mobile Comet Phone Review

In fact, we suspect Huawei was backed into a corner on this one – what the display would be larger have higher costs, and there are probably electronic guts behind this area, which could not easily have anywhere else without the phone moving thicker or more expensive (or without the battery life). And we do not want to blow out of proportion, either – it looks really good, it’s just a style element that would not simply exist on a more expensive device. Heck, most Android phones do not have physical send and end buttons at all, although there are quite nice, one-touch access to the phone application.

On a related note, that the huge circular D-pad, and its design is a bit confusing at some levels. First of all, the recent trend towards optical pads – especially on Android devices – you immediately assume that the large black area in the center of an optical Pad … but it is not. Rather, it is just a simple push button to choose from. Second, the raised chrome edge is a little thin and sweet, making it a little to push harder than it should be likely. Then again, if this huge space under the screen really in this price range required (see previous section), go with something like a trackball would be looked silly had, so this is probably another case of Huawei do the best it could with the hand had been treated there. And we are seriously fussy, anyway – you never have to use the D-Pad in Android, and if you choose, you can use this very well.

The display is definitely the weakest link in the Comet Arsenal – and that shows one of the most expensive components on any mobile phone’s bill, which comes as little surprise are. It is a 2.8-inch QVGA TFT screen that can suck a kind of trifecta is received: it is smaller, lower resolution and less contrast than today’s Android trendsetter. But they can get the job done? The actual display is (we would say of 1 mm or so) far enough below the capacitive layer that angles type are irrelevant because, as you tilt it, ending the display to darken and by reflection at this layer is not affected by any negative LCD effects.

t mobile comet T Mobile Comet Phone Review

The good news is that, as already mentioned, the screen is capacitive, and it pays off: we had no problems with sensitivity, it felt good, and we were of what an easy time for us with the On-screen keyboards had (more surprised about that later). Strangely, it does not seem to support multi-touch at all – even though then again, is on a screen this small, the usefulness of it is questionable. We did not really miss.

Above the display you will find the headphones (of course) from a proximity sensor to the left and a notification ambient light on the right side, which can be configured in the default Android species. The sensor is pretty funny – it works quite well as far as we can tell, but it is very clear red flashes every half second or so if you need in an area without much light. Interestingly, we were not able to get the display to check out hanging up, we had our hands on hold pretty much the entire face of the phone. Magic!

Looking at the meek processor and small screen, we expected that the battery always run on the Comet, but it was nothing spectacular – perhaps due to the fact that the battery is a relatively easy 1200mAh. Then again, it was far from terrible: we have selected about 24 hours of relatively light use, including one hour with the hotspot. With heavy use, we think it would be easy by a day, but you must be sure it the price.

Camera

It is a fixed-focus 3.2 megapixel camera, so we do not expect much – and we did not get much. The pictures are not half bad – especially when scaled up to sizes suitable for computer screens – but the video capture was absolutely horrible. There are CIF video (352 x 288) at a low frame rate with pretty horrible audio … and, well, frankly, there is almost nothing positive to say. It feels almost like Huawei has designed a sensor for still images and hacked to do video. In fact, that probably what they were doing.

Software

The comet is bearing Android 2.2 – a side effect of the Huawei partnership with Google on the phone, we are safe as evidenced by the large “Google” logo down right places at the back of the camera. That is, there are a few pack-in apps – nothing controversial, and nothing we have not seen before: the view-only version of Documents To Go from T-Mobile My Account and My Device applications, Swype, TeleNav, and an overall “Notepad” app are all in ROM. We use “notepad” in quotes because that’s how it is actually written, and the poor capitalization is a kind of indicator for the whole app – sloppy with virtually no functionality. We suspect Huawei wrote this himself and threw it in as a stopgap to make Android the lack of a standard notes application, but we would preferred that they just let us download one of the many free (and good) or those of us who have You can include T-Mobile partners with a developer to a decent.

We will not lie: the phone can be painfully slow. This is obviously due to the fact 528MHz processor, Huawei included – in part as Battery Saver, we are safe, but more as a cost saving. We have never been to the point where we were ready to throw the phone against the wall, though – the speed was bearable, especially (and important) in the browser, where scrolling seemed basically keep up with our demands.

t mobile comet android T Mobile Comet Phone Review

We mentioned the software keyboard just before, and on such a small screen, can you imagine the input was of concern. We were surprised – no, shocked – how little trouble we had typed in the keyboard market with our fat fingers, and frankly, we can not fully explain. It was not even half that Android’s word recognition system, we were just nailing the right letters generally consistent. Swype there too, if you’re into that sort of thing, and it seems just as good here as work on other Android device we’ve tested recently (that is, in fact, quite good).

An odd misstep comes when you connect the Comet to your computer. The phone is initially on your computer as a CD labeled “Mobile Partner”, a branding opportunity on the Ideos seems that T-Mobile to have missed a total for the Comet. Opening the CD reveals a PDF with some exclusions for BusyBox GPL, among other things, together with an offer from Huawei on a CD of all GPL source code in the Comet awards for 20. This is not even the strangest bit when – had the honor to the phone folder “Drivers” contains both ADB to go out and – get this – a link to Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 for Windows 2000 and XP to download.

You know, the software you use to connect your Windows Mobile device to your computer. Do not ask us. Of course this is not the first time that we really obvious and avoidable software to see madness in a T-Mobile device, we think this probably is the fact that T-Mobile one of the less rigorous equipment testing regimes of the industrial sector – we can not verify that claim, but it seems so.

LG Optimus T Phone Review

November 30th, 2010

In just a year ago we have a fundamental change in the Android community tools as consumers now have a number of phones to choose from. Compared to the same period last year, the only options at that time were mostly middle to high-end Android smartphones – devices such as Motorola and Samsung Droid moment most of the attention by taking their respective carriers.

Design:

For some sports an attractive price, you can not knock the design of the LG Optimus T follows since  is therefore like any other touch screen devices before. In fact, we are more than satisfied with the quality he shows surprising – as the surrounding soft-touch paint and chrome frame faux pas. Average size (0.52 cm thick) and weight (4.55 oz), the handset is not screaming and some large industrial designs with handsets, but it’s somewhat of LG line of feature phones – such as the LG Sentio and Encore. Overall we are satisfied with its structure, as all around solid and feels better than some other smart phones out there built.

Following closely on its entry-level character, the handset offers a 3.2″ HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen that supports 262k colors. Even if the display feels a little on the plastic side is in Indeed, the capacitive technology leads handsome. offers not only are a few decent view, but there is no place for a pleasant job ads sharp small text, and radiates some contrasting colors. Surely you will still need to get it shielded from the sun, but we’re quite happy with the results, when set to full brightness. As for the reaction ability, you will definitely need to get it in silence before you feel smooth to get to the surface, but once it there, it’s not too many issues registering a touch.

Gone are the annoying accidental presses are with the capacitive buttons on other Android phones – this is because the Optimus T resorts to help physical place. Always slightly elevated from the surface, it has the menu, at home, back, and looking buttons – all that hard to feel they have to. The left edge of the phone is completely clean of anything, but the right side houses the thin volume rocker, the more difficult to detect if an attempt is to push. The same applies to the dedicated power button on the upper part of the phone because it’s just too small, found to differ from the environment. Fortunately, however, maintained the smartphone pack along a 3.5 mm headset jack.  But when it comes to loading, the micro-USB port is placed accordingly at the bottom of the phone that you use on the phone without worry, while it makes a good charge.

Folding down the rear, was the only thing there besides the “LG” and “with Google” branding is the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera – but probably to save costs, it is missing a flash or self-portrait mirror. There is a small notch in the direction of the upper middle of the phone that can easily tear you back out of the envelope. Once it’s off, you have access to the SIM card slot, battery, and hot-swappable microSD card slot.

Interface and functionality:

We all know that something of this low price is not too soon to pack along a light processor, but actually we are more than satisfied with the level of performance from its 600 MHz chip impressed issued. Combine that with the slightly modified bearing Android 2.2 Froyo experience, the LG Optimus T is capable of a decent level of responsiveness shown by default when scrolling through his 5 home screens. Since LG has a few small and personalization have the Android experience, as some special widgets, the ability to extend it to 7 home screens. Even after setting a live wallpaper, we are very happy to see that it does not stutter too much running. Like other Android 2.2 smartphones, you can sync your address book with social networking accounts – so you have important information and status updates, all in the same place. Obviously you can add as many contacts that can keep the memory of the phone, and with that various information can be associated with each person.

Entering text can be as something of a disadvantage for fast typers, because we start some significant delay, when the shares Android keyboard. Of course, you can slow to solve the problem, but you can also use the keyboard as an alternative Swype. E-mail setup is a snap because it simplifies the setup experience by automatically setting up generic customer an e-mail address and password. Although it will require additional information, like an incoming and outgoing server addresses if they did not do by itself. And for instant messaging, Google Talk is apparently on board, but a quick stop at the Android Market can give you is with other services.

Finally, LG has not spread to the listener with its own social-networking application, but fortunately, Twitter and Facebook are biased in that they already know your friends. In addition to the numerous joint Android Apps generally found with most phones, the LG Optimus T also packs TeleNav GPS Navigator, smart drive, Diner Dash 2 demo, PAC-MAN CE demo, and ThinkFree Office.

Camera and Multimedia:

In a way, the Smartphone 3.2-megapixel camera, the kind of images that you would expect from a cheap phone. By no means the finished photos are breathtaking, but they give off a fair amount of sharpness in the outdoors. But the feeling of optimism evaporated quickly as color reproduction is extremely soft and mild – what to look for an overall bad taste ball. Inside, however, the results are no different when it was still capable of some sharp looking pictures that are down with lay and inaccurate colors shooting muddy. Even with the uneven quality of picture, most people would not be immediately and would continue to use the handset as it is.

Generally, we would see some decent details to other handsets, VGA video shoot covered but in the case of the LG Optimus T, is the case not so, as there is going a whole level pixelization. Admittedly though, it chugs along with a frame rate of 17 frames per second, which is better than most feature phones, it clearly falls behind the level issued by other smartphones. Honestly, its video capture quality is decreased significantly and can be left, just shoot open videos, you’ll forget later.

Nothing extravagant with his stick Android music player, but it worked as it should. Routinely, it would appear things like album art, track information and on-screen control, but there is no equalizer settings available and accessible. In other words, we are left to hear, its only a few speakers emit sounds strained when placed on the highest volume – and this is not at all loud when compared to other devices.

After inserting a movie trailer in DivX 480 x 360 resolution, the handset is encrypted, and was happy they played without much effort. We saw some smooth looking visuals, as it is in a position to be along at a reasonable price without much fluff. On the other hand, we were able to play encoded also a trailer for the movie in H.264 640 x 272 resolution, but unlike the previous video, this was laggy performance, it all put together made jerky. Usually there is no difficulty in the game most of the videos, but of course, those with higher resolution quickly shows its weakness. LG and T-Mobile are certainly generous, as it was the tag bias the handset with a 2 GB microSD card, especially if it has an internal memory of 170MB. But if you happen to need more than it will happily accept cards up to 32GB size.

Internet connectivity:

Enjoy your usual quad-band (850/ 900 /1800 /1900 MHz) GSM radio, you can find abroad without the fear to accept network compatibility with voice calls. But this dual-band UMTS (1700/ 2100 MHz) device, you will have access to 3G from T-Mobile AWS band – besides, you’re stuck with EDGE speeds. If you are tired of the use of these slower speeds, you can always have its Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connect the name for higher speeds. Performance:

Even if the listeners in the volume department, which can impede hearing correctly missing calls, votes were on our side, fortunately clear and free of distortion. Flipping to the other side of the line, have our callers say the same about our voice – to say that we sound natural and without much noise. But the lackluster performance of the speaker quickly erased from the memory even try to use it for calls. Since it emits some faint sounds, makes it extremely difficult to understand words. All in all, we are quite satisfied with the quality of appeal to the LG Optimus T.

T-Mobile G2 with Google Android Phone Review

November 9th, 2010

Is it really started only two years after the initial G1 phone from T-Mobile’s network, starting Google’s entry into the smartphone race?  Like its predecessor, the HTC-built G2 a full, QWERTY keyboard, but also brings the rest of the hardware up to par, or better, than most of the Android devices of today. The super-LCD is suitable for the sunlight, the phone runs Android 2.2, the camera supports high-definition video recording, and the handset, T-Mobile HSPA + use fast network for high speed mobile broadband services. Unlike many competing Android phones using the Android G2, a standard interface, the plus and minus. The native interface of Android 2.2 is quite usable, and lack of adjustment could mean future operating system upgrades appear more quickly.

However, enjoy some smartphone owners like myself modification with custom ROMs and interfaces as their Sense HTC Android interface. For now, this is not an option on the G2, as hardware, the original settings, if the phone has rooted. For most, however, the stock Android interface and seven sufficient home screens on the more than G2.

Photo software.

Although generally considered a “stock” interface, T-Mobile decided many pre-installed Google applications on the G2. Goggles, Finance, hearing, Sky and several other applications come with the device and can not be removed. It is a minor problem because the device does the 4 GB internal memory is still much room for the application, and links to these applications can be removed from the home screen.

Google Voice is also pre-installed and runs as one of the most important of Android is not necessarily a bad thing. In addition, Google Voice configuration of the device would initially installed, something I like in the future Android devices to see included. Given the relative non-customized approach of G2, there is nothing terribly new in terms of software or user interface. However, the fact that ships with G2 Froyo is a potential advantage over older devices that can wait for the latest update of Android. Viewed from a hardware perspective, the G2 several stand-out features: high-definition video recording with the 5 megapixel camera, a new Qualcomm processor, support for T-upgrade 3G mobile network and a unique sliding mechanism that a full hardware keyboard is disclosed.

Not a perfect picture.

Still pictures with the G2 are acceptable but not brilliant. The software supports auto-focus camera and a few basic user configurable settings, but offers no advanced options. Occasionally, I had several shots with the G2, because the white balance has been distorted to take by bright light. There is no way to tap the screen and support the camera in such a situation. The 720p video recording is good but not up to par with what I have seen on other devices currently available. The inclusion of a dedicated camera button is nice, however, and the camera software to start.

Peppy performance.

Although the CPU is designed at 800 MHz, the G2 results at least as good as my Nexus One, which uses a 1 GHz CPU Snapdragon. This is probably due to an improved graphics chip in the G2 and the next generation CPU. The G2 offers a fluid experience with little to no lag, even when multiple applications are running simultaneously. My view is that Qualcomm offers a good trade-off with this new CPU, it is as fast as the original Snapdragon can help in the battery life department. In fact, I found that the G2 has its mAh removable battery for more than my 1300 Nexus One handset without sacrificing performance.

Voice and data: clearly and quickly.

Speaking of performance, the G2 Radio package features. Voice quality and signal strength is solid and if you use the G2 HSPA + in a coverage area, you get a nice bonus in the form of faster mobile broadband services. I traveled only within the confines of a HSPA + area near my apartment and ran several speed tests. In a best-case scenario offered the G2 a download speed of 6.4 MBit s, upload speed of 1.3 Mbit s and latency of 96 milliseconds. T-Mobile tells me that I went deeper into the detection zone was faster, I would probably have seen downloads in the 7-9 Mbps range. These figures compare with WiMAX speeds and the expected performance of the coming-soon-LTE network of Verizon. Note that there are no additional fees for such speeds from T-Mobile network.
