Pantech Crux Verizon Wireless Phone Review

December 13th, 2010

Pantech has a key player for Verizon Wireless, usually releasing just one or two phones per year, most of which have been SMS devices, such as the Pantech joking, razzle and lightning was. Well, because touchscreen phones have all the rage, is the new Pantech response Crux, a thin and light feature-phone with a 3″ touch screen comes at a low price. Included in the retail package is the crux Pantech phone pre-installed 1GB microSD memory card, 1100mAh battery, charger with removable microUSB cable and instructions.

Design:

The appearance of the Pantech Crux is very minimalist with an all black plastic construction and chrome accents on the sides, although we the back of the phone to find a little too cheap and thin with the battery compartment. The unit is quite thin, only 0.5 ” and comes on only 4.3 ounces, making it easy to hold for long phone calls or put away in Skinny Jeans.

The front of the crux is the 3″ 240×400 pixel resolution capacitive touch screen that responds to the slightest touch, unlike the LG Touch Cosmos that uses a pressure resistive screen. But because of its low resolution, text and images are not too good and sharp but see a bit jagged and pixelated on the edges. You have to lock and unlock the device by the screen is up or down, and our concern here, if the internal mechanism may break over time.

Below the screen is a touch screen home button that will take you back to the home screen no matter what task you are currently pressing while you are already in the home screen, will review all three home screen, you can move through show (more on that later). Around the sides of the phone are the volume rocker, Micro-USB connector, dedicated music playback buttons, 3.5mm headset jack, camera, voice command, and power keys, and the microSDHC memory card slot (32GB supported). On the back is the 3MP camera and external speakers.

Interface and features:

As already mentioned, there are three home screens on the crux, though that one cycle by the finger across the screen. The first shows 12 shortcut icons to elements such as the Media Center, Web browser, music, news and VZ Navigator. The second screen displays icon links to connect your social networking, including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail and YouTube. But what happened in the end that all (expect for YouTube) that you actually open the online Beat program, log in your sites. The YouTube link opens the web browser and takes you to the mobile m.youtube.com page, where you can view videos.

The third home screen allows you to tag links on the desktop to add your music files, images and video. While this is nice, we would do it for adding frequently used contacts, as it would allow more functional. Regardless of which of the three screens you are home, there will be four static icons at the bottom to access the answering machine of calls and keyboard and contacts.

Where no customizations, you are limited to the change in the position of icons on the home screen and replaces it with another image, and shows them as links or Grid view. The issues are the only listed Misty are black and white pastel, but all they do is change the background color change menu color. You can also use a picture for the background, but it is only on the screen when the phone is locked is displayed.

When navigating through the menus and various programs, our complaint is that the user interface is slow to respond. We are not expecting Smartphone speeds here, but we believe that there is still slower than it should be, because you use with touch screen for all to the device.

The phone book on the Pantech Crux allows up to 1000 contacts with multiple phone and e-mail, picture and ringtone, saved IM screen name and address. Unfortunately, there is only enough space to store up to 99 speed dial numbers, while most other phones allow up to 999.

One thing that rarely appear at a cell phone is a 3MP camera, but do not be fooled, as the picture quality is lacking. Images that we outside of poor color rendition was suffered and looked soft and out-of-focus. Images that were equally bad indoors, especially in low light. Videos can be recorded at a maximum resolution of 640×480, but their quality is poor and has jerky playback at only 15fps.

Performance:

In contrast to the Pantech grim jest that had the quality of the connection, the Pantech Crux actually pretty good. Calls with loud voices sound clear and natural at both ends and without any distortion background. But unfortunately the signal reception is still pretty low, with usually only 1 bar showing our strong service area, although we do not drop any calls. The included 1100mAh battery is rated for up to 5.2 hours of talk time or 13.5 days of standby time on a full charge. In our tests we were only able to be up to 4.5 hours of continuous talk time. After a few cycles of power but you could use a bit more out of him.

Conclusion:

The Pantech Crux is a pretty good touch-screen feature phone, with an attractive price, slim body is, and has much to offer to get someone not looking for a smartphone. The main thing holding them back is the low power of the BREW software, since some programs took up to 20 seconds to load, while other similar devices respond faster.

Pantech Laser AT&T Phone Review

November 16th, 2010

If it happens, a mobile phone manufacturers, who value on fast production of solid messaging device for AT&  T has no one else will be as Pantech. Only recently that we see how they started on touchscreen devices and crafts, with the Pantech Pursuit being the first, but now we may have witnessed the culmination of all their hard work in advance to its latest device – the Pantech Laser P9050. Although it might not resonate well in the face of some lovely smartphones, the Laser is known as the thinnest phone in the world, pack a QWERTY keyboard – will be interesting to see how it stands in the lucrative fast messaging category.

Design:

Pantech has always been known that to take some interesting designs, like the one apparently with the Pantech Duo, but the Laser sets a new standard for all other devices come after it. From a quick glace, it is obvious that they took the design of the Pantech Pursuit and basically flattened it out – so that (0.39 cm thick) is very slim. This all plastic housing is common for the manufacturer, but it still manages to stay away from cheap feeling, which allows at the same time, it does not feel at all (4.06 oz) heavy. In all honesty, the most striking part of the listeners as they are able, extremely thin and still packing a physical landscape style keyboard.

Although a lot of attention is paid to its compact form, its 3.1″ AMOLED touch screen certainly open some eyes with its 400 x 800 pixels resolution and support for 262k colors offers. Of course, his resolution for some breathtaking sharpness and clarity that even the smallest text does look sharp. AMOLED panel also illuminates his look for some rich and brilliant colors, your eyes, to win their aura. However, it is based on resistive technology, which still requires a firm press to register. However, it has some good viewing angle, but of course it will still require you to meet outdoors in direct sunlight. Below the display of the Pantech Laser, are the usual culprits of physical buttons – the send, end and back clear key. Sufficiently large, they are more than good press with her pressure point. On the left side, you’ve got a lock button while on the right edge only to find the volume rocker – which both have a subtle feeling to have. Unfortunately, there is the listener a 3.5mm headset jack – which means you must rely on the micro-USB port on the upper edge for more.

In the rear, you find the 3-megapixel camera and speaker. Removing the rear cover is thin you on the SIM card slot, battery, and microSD card slot access – the latter of which can not be accessed when the battery is removed. The opening and closing mechanism of the handset is quite snappy and provides access to its 4 series QWERTY keyboard. In order to keep the handset as thin as possible, it was only fitting to find, flush the little buttons. However, they are still raised so slightly to have a certain distinguishable characteristics between them. We want them enough of each other and of average size, distance – the further complemented with good tactile feedback. Finally, we enjoyed the Pantech Laser QWERTY as it is not a problem while typing in passing.

Interface and functionality:

Although there are similarities to the prosecution, especially when it basically employs the same three-panel Home screen layout, the 3D cube effect when changing panels are added to its overall uniqueness. In addition, there are a lot of customization with its Home screen interface – like the whole lot of animated Clock options. If you are in the main menu, it naturally resorts to the usual grid-like view, but it is tempting as is scrolling between the three panels running so fast. Undeniably, there is this kind of small touches that make the Pantech Laser as impressive in its class. With a maximum capacity of 1,000 contacts, it should prove to be more than adequate for most people. In addition, there is a decent amount of information that can be placed at every touch – such as phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays and notes.

For those who prefer just typing in text the usual way, you will like the ability to find the touch keyboard hardware. You can also handwriting recognition method if you are brave and be patient. There are no landscape option on the screen, so that means that you are using the physical keyboard, at this point – which is undoubtedly the best experience. And just like with other AT & T handsets, it comes with AT & T Mobile E-mail application, the establishment of generic e-mail client does include a snap. As an alternative, but also provides access to some common instant-messaging services – such as AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.

If that’s not enough for you, you also have AT & T Online Net app that gives you a centralized environment for all your social networking needs, as it aggregates all your accounts in one app. It is worth mentioning that in the main menu icons for Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, but they simply start the web browser and present you with the mobile web versions of the respective locations. Following closely on other AT & T phones, you will find special applications such as AT & T Music, AT & T card, AT &TGolf vacation, AT & T Navigator and AT &T Radio. As for third party options, it will of course be accompanied by the usual suspects of applications – Where AllSport GPS, YPmobile, Mobile Banking, MobiTV, MobiVJ, My-Cast Weather PicDial and Star Tweets. Finally, there is a decent amount of AT & T applications preinstalled with the phone – such as AT & T Navigator, AT &T Golf vacation, AT &T Music and AT &T Radio. Next to them you find other third party applications like Where AllSportGPS, Loopt, MusicID2, YPmobile, MobiTV, Mobile Banking, and PicDial FunScreenz.

Multimedia:

For all that we have seen so far, it would be nice to see his 3-megapixel camera has superior over its competitors alike. Instead we have to some average looking shots to look a tendency on the subject you greetings, the outcome of them lost in some fine detail. When shooting pictures indoors where the lighting is sparse, there are some noticeable noise, which can be seen in them – produced at the same time, some muddy looking shots. For some people it might do the work in capturing the moment, but might not make it worthy enough for physical prints. Fortunately, it is better than the average 640 x 480 video recording resolution should be attractive, since it per pack while chugging some good detail along a frame rate of 15 frames per second. If other feature phones compared, it is able to have some better quality but its better resolution. In the end, the quality should be more lenient than for most people to tolerate.

With the same music player in the Pantech Pursuit presented, it is the artist, title, on-screen control, and an animated rotating disc during playback of a song. There is nothing really exciting, but it is more than functional in their core. Unfortunately, its speakers do not seem like it has in dealing with the play some tunes, like it sounds rather weak, but there are some sharpness that you can crawl over anything else. They know that its AMOLED display, a selling point for those who need to grow up watching videos on their phones. And with that in mind, the Laser is not stable Pantech a bit in the playback of some videos in high quality. We loaded a movie trailer in MPEG4 encoded 800 x 480 resolution and it did not look for problems throughout the play. Not only was it smooth and fluid, but its AMOLED panel is rich vibrant colors of ads that will undoubtedly please your eyes. Package along 112MB internal memory, it should be enough to meet the needs of people who do not necessarily satisfy too many photos or videos. In the event that you need additional space, it will happily accept microSD cards.

Internet connectivity:

World travelers bring along the Pantech Laser abroad, as it is a quad-band GSM (850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 MHz) and dual-band UMTS (850/ 1900 MHz) of the device. In addition to their arsenal, it packs Bluetooth 2.0 with other wireless devices to enable connect with him, and GPS location for all your needs. When it comes to Web browsing, which is powered by Opera Mini, you’ll only be able to do it in landscape mode. Although it would have been nice to have support to look for portraits, the experience is more than satisfactory, since it is able, pages load at a time and offers some stunning details with its high-res AMOLED display. How to scroll, it is something of a slow process, since it does not provide kinetic scrolling – so expect a workout for your fingers. All in all, it takes away not that there is more than useful, but it’s so much more pleasing look with its brilliant display.

Performance:

Place all his strength in the messaging section was flat on his back in the calling quality department. Primarily, the listener is not given for the audible tones, but it is clouded with some static sound in the background. In addition, the sound of our voice callers rather muted in tone – which is still difficult to understand words.

Conversely, our interlocutor said that our voice sounded hollow end. But should sound when switching on the speakerphone muffled voices – the whole experience makes unflattering, to say the least. No problems in maintaining a good connection to the network appears as the handset and not enough bars are no calls during our tests. Probably because of the AMOLED panel in use, we managed to get a decent amount of juice from its batteries. In fact, we could only reach a little under 6 hours before they died completely. Although there is no record setting, it is considered to be average for his group. The manufacturer has rated for 5 hours of talk time and 336 hours standby time.

But when you factor in all the goodies it has under its shell packaging, you will easily find out that before other similar phones like the Samsung and LG Vu Impression Plus increases. It is also one of the most expensive non-smart phone Pantech phones that we’ve seen so far, but there is a level of intrigue because of its imposing shape of being the thinnest phone on the market for sport accompanied by a landscape keyboard. Although it might not be even in all categories, it still manages to manages to transcend a messaging phone – plus it makes you look this good.

Pantech Link AT&T Phone Review

November 12th, 2010

AT & T introduced a number of new messaging phones at CTIA 2010, and one of them was the Pantech Link. A long overdue update of the Pantech is the Link just as thin as its predecessor, although it has slightly updated features. It has 3G and GPS functionality, and it will support one of the first units to AT & T’s cloud services such as on-Net and the online locker. Combined with a set of basic multimedia offerings, will satisfy the Pantech Link those who want a low-end messaging phone that is light in both ounces and the wallet do.

Design

think and feel for its low price, it could be the Link would Pantech, cheap and shabby in his hands. Fortunately, it is not. The Link measures 4.5 inches long and 2.4 inches wide by 0.39 inches thick, and it is surprisingly stable, despite how thin it is. In fact, it is probably one of the thinnest mobile messaging, we’ve ever used. It has a nice rubberized texture on the back for better grip and the whole structure of the phone feels solid, even if it has a plastic housing. The Link is very easy and at only 3.2 ounces. On the front of the phone a very nice 2.4-inch TFT color display is 262 000. It has a 320×240-pixel resolution, which is quite a bump from the shale is 176×220 pixels. The display is sharp and colorful as a result, read with sharp images and text. You can use the backlight time, brightness, the font menu, type and appearance of the Clock and the text on the home screen.

Below is the full QWERTY keyboard. The buttons are all rising above the surface and have a bubble-texture, so it is easy to quickly dial and text. There are the typical function and symbol keys, and we would like it dedicated one. Com key, too. The number keys are highlighted in blue. On the left side of the phone the volume rocker and the microSD card slot is, the headset charger jack and camera button on the right. We’re a little disappointed that the phone does not have a 3.5mm headset jack, since it has a music player. On the back is the camera lens and mirror for self portraits.

We tested the Pantech Link in San Francisco using AT & T network. Call quality on the whole was mediocre. On our part, we were able to hear callers loud and clear, with nary a hint of static. They sounded very natural too. However, callers had lots of trouble on their end. You could hardly hear us through the crackle and hiss, and sometimes did not hear anything at all or the call would be dropped. AT&T Pantech Ease Review

AT&T seems to be releasing new handset for new listeners, everyone should be excited about a user or another.

With the publication of his Pantech Ease ($ 199.99) phone in June, AT&T has been working for is a simple mobile phone, user-friendly for technophobes and seniors to create. Instead of phones like the Jitterbug J, designed specifically for older consumers, the Pantech Ease simply an easy to use, slim phone that can be used for senior citizens complaint and those who do not want just a long learning curve to find out their phone.

The font is large and easy to read, and can be pushed up slightly even greater. The resistive touch screen responds well to hard cocks. But the touch function often took a few tries to work correctly, and I noticed that it sometimes a little behind.

The 2.8-inch touch screen is very small, but very much usable some sharp and colorful display. The display supports up to 262k colors and has a resolution of 320x240p. Backlight time and brightness of the display can be set. The phone has three home screen like most other touchscreen phones that you can use with mirrors on your right and left. Of the three two are customizable home screens, one for your favorite applications and one for contacts.

Each house has windows shortcuts for phone dialer, Inbox and the main menu at the bottom. The menu interface is very extensive, but not expanded, because the tasks are standard. It has set a resistive screen that you are a little more pressure when you need it means. Touch accuracy can be adjusted on the touch Calibration Wizard and it is good that the phone is some vibration feedback. The phone has a virtual keyboard, in which both dialing and text simple. As there is a resistive touch screen, we recommend the physical keyboard when typing messages.

There are three touch-sensitive buttons below the display such as send, delete and end keys. Connection options are the microSD slot and the head set jack away from the sides.

You can access the QWERTY keyboard by getting the screen to your right. Sliding is smooth and locks the screen. The QWERTY keyboard, though small, looks is spacious enough to use with striking buttons with enough space between them.

Pantech Impact AT&T Phone Review

September 10th, 2010

The Pantech is easy Impact the best feature of the company by phone to date. It is a striking horizontal mirror that features haptic feedback-enhanced, invisible number keys, plus a hidden QWERTY keyboard and an additional LCD screen inside. The effect is a good choice for those seeking a superb voice and text phone.

Design and User Interface

The solid-feeling Impact measures 4.2 of 2.0 by 0.7 inches and weighs 4.5 ounces. It comes in two colors: a striking metallic blue with black front panel and internal keyboard and a faded pink with black front panel but white inside. The phone is built from high quality plastic with a smooth, solid hinge. The hidden LED keyboard appears when you press the hold button on the side of the phone. It is a little tricky to get used to, but if you do this, it’s just the numbers on the dial. And it looks so cool, I think it’s worth the effort. The small external monochrome LCD shows time, date and caller ID information clearly.

Inside, the sharp, has bright 2.6 inch internal display 240-by-400-pixel resolution and is flanked by larger-than-normal stereo speakers. The colorful menu offers well-defined icons for common tasks ten, but my order App Center and symbols lead to ugly, difficult to navigate menus. The QWERTY keyboard has large, flat, square keys with a decent click to view them. I was comfortable enough for typing long messages. One quirk: you have the handset to power it on or off, which is annoying.

Call Quality

The Impact is a Quad-Band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and dual-band HSDPA (850/1900 MHz) phone, which means that it is overseas, but 3G speeds works are in the U.S. and Canada is limited. Voice quality was clear, with good external noise reduction. But made a persistent low volume in the handset, it is difficult to callers to hear in windy conditions. The Impact flips open to use speakerphone, it was moderately loud, but sounded a bit tinny. Also calls sounded good through a Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth Headset Pro. Battery life was good on 5 hours and 47 minutes of talk time.

Messaging

AT&T Mobile E-mail provides access to Yahoo, AOL, AIM, Gmail and Windows Live accounts, but it costs extra at $ 5 per month. The Impact hook into AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo IM accounts, but not Google Talk, the IM client has a long time to load and only showed my mobile AIM buddies. The Opera-powered Web browser by default mobile at a glance, but turned off when I do that desktop pages loaded quickly and looked super-sharp. Navigation with the five-way control pad easy. The screen feels a little scrunched, but offers a solid browsing experience for a mid-range feature phone. TeleNav-powered AT&T GPS Navigator is also on board for the voice-enabled, turn-by-turn directions.

Multimedia

There is 80MB of internal memory, plus a bottom-mounted microSD card slot that works with 32GB cards, has my 16GB SanDisk card worked well. The proprietary headphone jack is a downside. The Impact combines Napster and eMusic to purchase music over the air. It streams music videos from the extra-cost MobiVJ service, but lacks the ability to play locally stored video files. MP3 and AAC tracks sounded bright and sharp on Motorola S9-HD stereo Bluetooth headset. Impact of the album art displayed on the internal screen, if present, the external screen showing track info, and offered basic controls.

Camera

The 2 megapixel autofocus camera lacks an LED flash, although it can record video. It’s a little hard to keep the impact correctly, there has to be opened to take photos, and your right hand ends of the camera sensor. Photos looked sharp, but gray, with flat color both outdoors and inside. Shutter lag was a little more than a second, a few interior shots were lost to blur. Recorded video looked grainy, but otherwise smooth at 320 x 240 pixel resolution and 13 frames per second.

Verdict

The Pantech Reveal is a good addition to AT&T lineup for message delivery. The Motorola Karma QA1 is another strong choice for messaging enthusiasts, there is a vertical slider with a smaller keyboard, but it’s good-sounding phone with powerful media capabilities. The Samsung SGH-a897 Mythic, our current Editors’ Choice for AT u0026 T sinks feature phones, the hardware keyboard. But Mythic has a large touch screen, broadcast mobile TV and full-screen video playback. That is, the impact could make a positive impact too happy with mainly text-teens.
