Palm Treo 750 Phone Review

March 3rd, 2011

Palm’s new Treo 750 for Cingular is a damned good phone. It is one of the clearest-sounding smartphones I’ve ever used, and Palm’s unique properties make it easier to find contacts, dial and search the web than on most other Windows Mobile-cells. But in a highly competitive market, I have trouble calling for unabashed enthusiasm for these plump, slightly overpriced product.

There’s nothing scandalous news about the Treo 750 features, but that’s okay, the mobile phone world should not only innovators but also refiners who make useful innovations. That has always been the role of Palm, and the company is good.

Like the Treo 680 looks like a Treo 650 with the antenna cut off, the Treo 750 looks like a Treo 700w with the antenna is missing, which also resembles a Treo 680 or a Treo 650, or any other Treo you can be seen in the past two years. There are good and bad sides to this. The Treo is a solid, friendly weight in your hand, with a smooth housing and relatively clear buttons-though the keys are small and close together. But modern designs seem to have passed the Treo a bit you will cover other smartphones or bigger screens, thinner bodies, or more fluid navigation devices such as trackballs are available.

Yet this is a great phone. Call quality and volume are absolutely amazing, some of the best I’ve heard in a long time. And quad-band radio is capable of even higher speed UMTS networks hit abroad. Admittedly, when the speakerphone to the top again, the whole phone vibrates, making a buzzing noise. But in a world where too many smartphones are too quiet, the Treo 750 is very refreshing. The reception is pretty good too, my 750 was able to hold conversations with a weak signal Cingular.

It is connected to a Plantronics Bluetooth headset without a problem, but you can not initiate voice dialing from a Bluetooth headset to fury. I could not measure properly speaking, because I tested the Treo 750 in the first place in a weak signal location, but the 7 hours PDA usage time with full backlight accounts for a modern PDA phone.

The 750 is a smartphone, of course with a touch screen and the connections with Cingular’s UMTS network. It may not be aware of Cingular’s HSDPA speeds, such as the Cingular 8525 and the Samsung BlackJack to-the earth, about 384-kbps downloads, but my tests showed that the 750 makes the best of what she has, coming close maxing out at UMTS speeds. It acts as a modem for your laptop via USB or Bluetooth, and Palm has said it is an HSDPA software upgrade in the next six months to bump up speeds.

Palm has retouched the Windows Mobile system here and there to make it easier to use, and all of the innovations are smart. You can search your contact list or from the Google home screen, send text messages to callers ignore you, or see text messages in an attractive, IM-like threaded way.

The 750′s low-res screen and 300-MHz processor combine to feel quite heavy. The unit was moderately fast on the benchmark tests, and the built Picsel Viewer is unusually good at displaying complex PDFs. There is a relatively large 63MB of free storage memory, like on the Sprint Treo 700wx and a miniSD card slot that supports up to 2GB cards.

The Treo has all the usual Windows Mobile software, too, including Pocket Office and Windows Media Player, and you can listen to music on wireless stereo Bluetooth headphones. The integrated 1.3-megapixel camera is not so good pictures looked a little out of focus but the camera phone mode takes unusually smooth videos at 176-by-144 and 30 frames per second.

Like the Treo 700w, Palm uses a low 240-by-240 resolution display 25 percent fewer pixels than competing phones like the Cingular 8525 and Samsung BlackJack, half as much as his own Treo 680, and even less than the diminutive BlackBerry Pearl, the Treo was out for lunch to eat without further bulging. This affects everything you do.

It means less of a web page, fewer contacts, calendar entries less and less of your Microsoft Office documents. It also completely screws up some Pocket PC applications a rectangular 320-by-240-screen expect, so the content flows from the edges. That said, the Palm screen looks good: In full sun, it is completely legible. But you can not see anything on the edge of the screen.

The new Treo 750 is a very good basic phone and connected PDA. It is a better phone than the Treo 680. But the high price and small screen make me reluctant to advise on the Treo 680, Samsung BlackJack and the BlackBerry Pearl on one side and the Cingular 8525 on the other side.

Palm Pixi Plus Verizon Wireless Phone Review

October 27th, 2010

Palm mobile Pixi never made to England, but that does not have the company that recently bought by HP stopped the release of the follow-up, the Palm Pixi-Plus, O2, and hopefully other operators. But it has been worth the wait, and you should choose this over any other smartphone on the market? We have the phone to find seized.

The Palm Pixi-Plus is a candy bar form factor handset, a QWERTY keyboard, a touch screen display and webOS platform that Palm still has high hopes for functions. In the hand it’s small, lightweight and very compact, so compact that open the shell and you will see that everything is packed so tightly it surprising that Palm managed to do it.

The grinding – it measures 55 x 111 x 10.85mm – means that some compromises must be made. There is no microSD slot for example, like everything on the phone’s internal memory 8 GB storage capacity can be saved (you will have access to 7 GB), and the battery is incredibly small (1150mAh) affects the overall endurance of the handset in use – yes, is the another phone, a burden that needs every day.

The matte black case is interchangeable with other hidden in the supply of palm and there is a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash at the back next to two speakers for media playback. The camera is okay, but compared to what is available on the market, it will not impress as much. Likewise with the video recording capabilities, it’s good for YouTube happy slapping, but not much more. Like most cell phones are the pages with volume keys, a ringer silencer switch and a 3.5mm jack decorated on the top. Two small speakers on the back and put it on the desk helps strengthen dampen the noise instead. How the new look Palm Pre Plus there is not a “pearl”  trackball or other “quick”  keys out of the keyboard. Due to the size of the handset, the keypad is very cute and those with large hands should avoid you.

The keyboard design is individual key buttons, the slightly raised upward above the chassis, and we found ourselves with the buttons with the fingertips rather than the pad. This could do with the fact that resting your thumbs on the buttons to view deletes the entire keyboard or the keys themselves are small, but either way, do not give too much waiting for you. Inside and you get 3G, Wi-Fi (new to the Pixi-Plus), GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.

Those who have previously seen the pre be aware that the main interaction with the stealing by a number of listeners with his finger. Tapping on the light gap between the keyboard and the screen was sitting, you can call the Dock and switch between “Disk”. Other simple gestures include swiping upward on a panel, tile, card throwing, or whatever you feel like it was called off, while a strike to the left sends you to the back.

The panels work even as a card game and lets you run multiple applications simultaneously and then flit between them, as if you were with the fairies. It takes a few moments to get used to, but if you do this, it is very easy to do the interface is what you want to zip. To do what you want, of course, the main purpose of the operating system and it is certainly a good look and feel is very user friendly got. E-mail setup is a breeze – your e-mail address and password and away you go. Add this easy synchronization of your data to contacts and calendar functionality and you see up and running very quickly.

To further improve this thing called Palm Synergy that links your contacts from a variety of sources. For example, if you listed the same contact in more than one account, Synergy recognizes that the same person and link the information presented by it, as a listing. Also automatically view your consolidated to duplicate information. It is wise and should save more and more excited and stuff Google is creating many duplicates as anyone with the system with the iPhone will tell you.

Better yet, all new messages, whether calendar updates or new e-mails as a pop-up notification to the bottom of the screen allows you to display them or dismiss them with a brush. It is much less intrusive than Apple’s attempt alerts and allows you to handle the task at hand if that is even more important.

In the phone you receive a number of applications for the beginning, but not masses. There is the WebKit browser, of course, that solid, fast and easy to operate. In particular, we are the swipe elements that allow you to scroll forward and backward through pages with ease. Then there are the usual array of photos, music and videos, all of which are self-explanatory and basic in its offering are – we want to use the opportunity to strike, a new track and the possibility of the volume while the phone is locked in the pocket . Still on the multimedia front is YouTube and of course the camera application, which we’ve already talked about.

Office bods like to see a document viewer, PDF viewer and a trusty calculator. Instead of burying applications into folders, they are through the menu bar and scrolling Add, move, or delete them completely around it is simple enough. The addition of Wi-Fi makes it easier to surf when at home and the Wi-Fi side, although the capability is missing, the phone has Wi-Fi hotspot itself, is easy to manage.

Adding more applications on Palm App Store, App Catalog called this time, and it is with applications that help you fill the most of your new phone and no doubt the busy life you lead to be. The app catalog is currently small, says something about Palm quality rather than quantity is you should not buy the Pixi-Plus for this reason. It’s still very early days for applications, most developers now prefer to develop for the larger iPhone, Android and Blackberry platforms instead of App. You might be able to niche apps here and some of your favorites to find, but do not count on it.

Conclusion

The Palm Pixi-Plus is like a BlackBerry Curve, it is likely that your first venture into the wonderful world of smartphones. On this front, the OS bring for you in the womb, without complicating things. The touch screen is a big advantage over the BlackBerry models and the simple e-mail setup and synchronization of Synergy is great. The form factor is very pocket-friendly. The problem for us is that the handset feels sluggish with the processor not to Pep to get applications to open faster, so you wait for something to happen. There is no age, but it is not directly related.

Add to that poor multimedia experience – the screen is too small – a lack of apps in the App Catalog and a battery life of us expected to take longer and you could be left feeling disappointed. There is potential here and if you do not have to add applications or with the camera, then it was busy to have a “nice” phone. But from 30 per month, Android would give you a better impact for your money, and that’s the biggest problem Palm faces. Convincing with them instead of going Google.
