Performance

Typing in portrait mode brings a classic alphanumeric keyboard that is a bit disappointing considering this is a method of smartphone users are no longer used to. It’s little things like this that make Nokia is clearly reluctant to go further, and the decision not to proceed with a mini QWERTY is staggering. Fortunately, if the device is used in landscape mode, a full qwerty appears. Unfortunately, the keys like the spacebar, enter, delete and move are simply too small and make entering text freely clumsy.

The default browser is made to look mean when you clearly against mobile browsers like Safari and Opera Mini in terms of speed and style. N8 shows as much as possible of the Web, but users still have to click on a double-ended arrow in the right corner and then it’s three clicks before they are able to navigate to a different address. The font is readable when a webpage loads, but pages are not automatically adjusted to the 3.5-inch touch screen, which is disappointing to fit. The Nokia E5-00 has a great design and feel to it. The use of a full metal casing means the house as safe-as-you drop it or a bit rough to handle. The metal backplate is also protected and held in place by pins on both sides of the body, same as we saw in the Nokia C3-00.

Design

The first thing you notice at the 7705 Twist is that it has a hole. The hole serves as a pivot for the front panel, and its “contact ring” lights for your contacts when they call. The twist is small and light in hand, it measures 2,7-2,7-0,6 inch (HWD) and weighs 3.4 ounces. It looks like a chrome accents make-up case, with its glossy black front and glossy design. The bright 2.4-inch, 320-by-240 pixel LCD displays sharp, bold fonts and includes an ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness dim environments. The front panel has a square-ish five-way directional pad and three illuminated touch keys. Twist (get it?) Messaging

Twist the Nokia 7705 uses standard Verizon menu system. That is, it is known to slow and kludgy and requires too many keystrokes for most tasks. The Polaris 6.1 browser displays HTML pages even in the face of the smaller LCD. But pages were stiff and slow to navigate using the cursor on the screen, and the USA Today took home more than two minutes to load completely. Verizon expense of its instant-messaging application, in AIM, Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger accounts hook, but one of each transfer as a text message on your bill. Multimedia

The non-standard 2.5 mm headphone jack was a downer. At least there is a side-mounted SD card slot, my 16GB SanDisk card worked fine, and there’s 119MB of on-board memory also. Verizon’s music player was difficult to navigate, with too many key presses required to cue up songs, and the usual annoying requirement is that everything in a particular folder on a microSD card. AAC, MP3, and WMA tracks sounded tinny and overly bright on a set of Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth headset paired. The Twist album cover displayed when available. Sometimes incredibly loud, ear-piercing static occurred when I hear new start or stop playing title on the S9-HD’s and .3 gp videos OK, if I run on a distorted audio.

Stop and restart the video, it seemed to fix it, though it never sounded quite 100 percent clean. V CAST videos were poorly organized to cull heavily and looked pixelated, but played well enough provided I stuck with the standard thumbnail-sized window. You can also opt for V CAST Music with Rhapsody for subscription and over-the-air music downloads.

Camera

The 3-megapixel camera was a disaster. The slow shutter speed, poor resolution, and the lack of detail helped (from fire, lightning or in a dark room), a series of photos that were either useless too dark or completely blown out (well-lit interior spaces, flash off).
