Call Quality /Battery Life

The BlackBerry parallels continue, as the Droid Pro has nothing to complain about us in the voice quality department. Call Quality

The large 1570 mAh battery delivered more than eight hours of talk time in our preliminary tests and battery tests are still ongoing. I expect that this phone is much better battery life than the HTC Evo total, the large screen means it will probably be charged every day, but I’m confident in saying the battery is not a deal-breaker. An even larger, 1930 mAh battery is extended to 1 mm thick at startup as an add-on accessories.

Operating system and software

The Droid X running 2.1 with the latest version of Motorola’s MotoBlur extensions, designed to be less intrusive than the software on phones like the Motorola CLIQ Android. I use four freeware benchmarks on Android: BenchmarkPi, CaffeineMarks, Linpack, and Softweg Neocore. (Why these four? Because they are the only ones available when I started benchmarking Android devices in the last year.) Were the first three mixes focus on the performance of the CPU, the fourth in the memory and file system performance, and the last simulates a 3D game. The Droid X beat all other Android devices on all crude benchmark, including 3D gaming performance. (Synthetic benchmarks such as these can not be used to compare different operating system platforms.)

Multimedia

The Droid X is a fine music phone, but it’s really great if you are looking for a device primarily music. Included with 8 GB internal memory and a 16GB microSD card, there is plenty of room for your media. The telephone AAC, MP3, WMA and WAV are music and synchronized with double twist (Free,) on the desktop or have their own free Verizon V Cast Media Manager. (Double twist is better.) Music sounded rich and clear through wired or Bluetooth stereo headphones. If you do not feel like download your own music, there is an FM radio with 15 presets.

The Droid X 8-megapixel camera is one of the best I’ve seen on a mobile phone. I like his photos even more than the EVO’s, or is incredible, it works better with large dynamic range in daylight shots, and takes sharp photos in good light with subtle delineation of textures. Low-light photos are softer than the incredible, but, perhaps because the Droid X-Flash is a bit weaker.

The phone lacks a front-facing camera, but I do not see that as a big problem at the moment, Android video calling software is buggy and hard to use. That is, I Qik video streaming a way without a problem.

As promised, captures the Droid x 720p video at 24 frames per second, which played smoothly on my Mac and PC, although I could not play it on the very phone I took it with.

The Droid X is an excellent phone for watching videos, unless you’re watching it on the phone. It supports an unusual deep range of codecs I 480p format files played in a simple MP4, H.264, WMV and DivX and XviD formats. YouTube videos in HQ (480p) mode streamed over Wi-Fi looked sharp and Verizon’s $ 10-per-month V CAST service has built up a decent list of content partners. The phone will also power full NFL games with an upcoming App.

The X-blockbuster app turns out to be less attractive in practice than in theory. There are no subscription option, and rentals are overpriced at $ 4 per day. Pulse just forget: it has invite me two hours Shutter Iceland on Wi-Fi. “Legal movies on your mobile phone” sounds great on paper, but the user experience just is not here.

The Droid X gets our nod over the HTC Droid Incredible account of the better camera, voice dialing, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot mode and various other built-in applications. But the Droid X is not for everyone: This phone is huge. Its performance is close enough to the incredible’s that I’m very comfortable recommending it to go the smaller paws for the HTC smartphone, if you have a specific need Droid X function. Folks looking for a great Verizon smart phone with a hardware keyboard, perhaps you should wait for the Motorola Droid 2, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha promised months.
