AT & T introduced a number of new messaging phones at CTIA 2010, and one of them was the Pantech Link. A long overdue update of the Pantech is the Link just as thin as its predecessor, although it has slightly updated features. It has 3G and GPS functionality, and it will support one of the first units to AT & T’s cloud services such as on-Net and the online locker. Combined with a set of basic multimedia offerings, will satisfy the Pantech Link those who want a low-end messaging phone that is light in both ounces and the wallet do.
Design
think and feel for its low price, it could be the Link would Pantech, cheap and shabby in his hands. Fortunately, it is not. The Link measures 4.5 inches long and 2.4 inches wide by 0.39 inches thick, and it is surprisingly stable, despite how thin it is. In fact, it is probably one of the thinnest mobile messaging, we’ve ever used. It has a nice rubberized texture on the back for better grip and the whole structure of the phone feels solid, even if it has a plastic housing. The Link is very easy and at only 3.2 ounces. On the front of the phone a very nice 2.4-inch TFT color display is 262 000. It has a 320×240-pixel resolution, which is quite a bump from the shale is 176×220 pixels. The display is sharp and colorful as a result, read with sharp images and text. You can use the backlight time, brightness, the font menu, type and appearance of the Clock and the text on the home screen.
Below the display is the navigation array that consists of two soft keys change, a dedicated speakerphone key, a delete key, a round, and send and end power keys. The gag has a spun metal surface on the outer circle have plus on the middle confirmation key, and the rest of the keys have a nice curved surface, it is easy to navigate by feel. The toggle also acts as a Link to a new SMS message, the instant messaging menu, the AT & T address book and e-mail.
Below is the full QWERTY keyboard. The buttons are all rising above the surface and have a bubble-texture, so it is easy to quickly dial and text. There are the typical function and symbol keys, and we would like it dedicated one. Com key, too. The number keys are highlighted in blue. On the left side of the phone the volume rocker and the microSD card slot is, the headset charger jack and camera button on the right. We’re a little disappointed that the phone does not have a 3.5mm headset jack, since it has a music player. On the back is the camera lens and mirror for self portraits.

Features
The Pantech Link has a 600-entry phone book with room for each entry in six numbers, three email addresses, company name, a messenger ID, a Web address, three street names, a date of birth, anniversary, and a note. You can organize your contacts into caller groups, pair them with a photo for caller ID, or pair them with a polyphonic ringtones of eight. Basic features include a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a calendar, a notepad, a voice recorder, world clock, a calculator, a tip calculator, a stopwatch, timer and metric converter.
For the more advanced user, you also get stereo Bluetooth, voice, instant messaging (AIM, Windows Live and Yahoo), GPS with support for AT &T Navigator and mobile e-mail. The latter allows you to access a variety of e-mail providers like Yahoo, AOL, Windows Live, and you can in your own POP or IMAP server information as well as power. Remember that you are using a web interface for e-mail, there is no real dedicated app for it. The Link uses the att.net browser based on Opera. This way, you can view HTML web pages, although the relatively small screen means you have to do a lot of scrolling. Read more about these browsers in our review of the Pantech Reveal.
The Link is also provide one of the first phones from AT &T cloud services. This you can back up your phone contacts with AT &T’s address book online. You can send messages and import contacts from it. Another service is AT & T’s online locker where you can store photos and videos to AT &T servers. You get 250 MB of online storage space, but the file transfer is not free. Each transfer is 35 cents, or you can pay $ 10 for 50 transfers. Also remember that there is a 10 MB file size cap. If you prefer, you can recommend by AT&T Mobile to the media files to other sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Photobucket or send.
We are looking forward to 3G support here, the Link provides access to AT &T’s array of broadband services to see. These include mobile video that you see streaming video from a variety of content providers allows mobile music and that you buy and download music over the air from Napster and eMusic can. The music player on the left is pretty rudimentary, but you get the opportunity to create and edit playlists, shuffle and repeat songs or share.

The Link has a microSD card slot that supports up to 16GB cards. The Mobile Music application has additional features such as XM Radio Mobile, a song identification application, ring tone creator, streaming, music videos, and access to music fan sites. The 1.3-megapixel camera on the Pantech Link you to take pictures in four resolutions and three quality settings. Other options include white balance, color effects, a self-timer, shutter sounds and a timer sound, with silent for both options. The photo quality is actually pretty good for a low-megapixel camera. Images look sharp and not blurred and colors bright, too. The Link also has a built-in camcorder. You can customize the Link with wallpaper, graphics and ringtones. You can add your own images and MP3s, if you want, or you can add the AT & T Download Store. The phone comes with some games and applications – MobiTV, Mobile Banking, FunScreenz, PicDial, Tetris, Block Breaker Deluxe 2, Ms. Pac-Man World Series of Poker, and TextTwist 2 – but you can see more of this download, as well as AT & T’s AppCenter.
Performance
We tested the Pantech Link in San Francisco using AT & T network. Call quality on the whole was mediocre. On our part, we were able to hear callers loud and clear, with nary a hint of static. They sounded very natural too. However, callers had lots of trouble on their end. You could hardly hear us through the crackle and hiss, and sometimes did not hear anything at all or the call would be dropped. If we’ve managed to get through, callers said we sounded OK with a natural sounding voice. Hands-free calls from the same problem suffered.

Audio quality from the speakers was quite tinny and hollow. We would probably a headset for listening to music. We enjoyed really good 3G speeds with Pantech link. The Pantech link has a rated battery life of 3 hours of talk time and 10 hours standby time. It has tested a discussion of 4 hours and 2 minutes. According to the FCC, it has a digital SAR of 0.75 watts per kilogram.
